Tewari demands CBI probe into IAY scandal

Ludhiana : All India Congress Committee spokesperson and MP from Ludhiana Manish Tewari today demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged financial bungling in the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) programme here. He has sought a Central audit on all schemes sponsored by the Union Government in Ludhiana parliamentary constituency.

"It is highly condemnable that Rs 1.33 crore meant for providing houses to the Dalits and the downtrodden was siphoned off under an organized scandal," said Tewari, who met Union Minister for Rural Development C P Joshi yesterday in the national capital and submitted a letter to him. Funds meant for constructing houses for Dalits were misappropriated by the officials and the state government has failed to take any concrete action, he alleged. The MP urged the minister for urgent action to "stop the wanton loot of public money by some unscrupulous officials under the patronage of the state government".
